I love this video. He puts it so simply. Take 5 minutes to watch and listen to this, you’ll be glad you did.
This is my favorite new tool at the studio. It’s literally a 5 gallon bucket filled with about 25lbs of rice. I’ve been using it to help with all kinds of issues that are really common in people; hand pain, wrist issues, tennis/shooters elbow, and shoulder/rotator cuff issues.
All across the board; everybody’s mobility, range of motion, and/or strength has increased after using it correctly. Check out the video and try it yourself. This is an ancient exercise, used first by shaolin monks to strengthen their hands for combat!
And don’t forget about Yoga Class tomorrow morning from 9:30am-10:30am with Emily! #VinyasaFlow
Check out this Motivational Video from Will Smith’s Instagram Story on Youtube! This is one of the videos I listen to every morning. I STRONGLY Believe that you have to make choice as to who you want to be, how you want to act, what you want to do, how much you want to make, etc., and then have a Plan towards those things. In order to execute that Plan, you have to get your Mind Right every morning before the News or anything else can get in your ear and influence your emotions! This video helps me get my mind right, so I can execute my plan. Also, his workout reference couldn’t be more spot on. I hope y’all find this video as helpful and as inspirational as I do.
And don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Mobility vs Flexibility Workshop with Eric on Thursday, May 10th from 6pm-730pm!!
Although this isn’t fitness related, I had to share this video with y’all. One of my friends and clients, Douglas Klahr, gave a Ted Talk a few months ago on dealing with the World’s Housing Crisis and Slum Housing. I just finished listening to it myself! Doug is the Associate Dean at the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Arlington. The man know’s what he’s talking about! I hope y’all give this a listen, he’s a great public speaker. Congratulations to Doug on giving a TED Talk! That’s pretty cool.
I also wanted to remind y’all to vote! Even if you already voted, you can vote again! I’m talking about the Oak Cliff Advocate Magazine’s Best of Oak Cliff Competition, where we are in the running for people’s favorite workout spot. Please click on the link below and vote for Jonathan’s Private Training Studio as the Best Place to Workout in Oak Cliff!
Saturday Calisthenics Class is going down this Saturday again from 10AM-11AM! Eric will be leading the class and bringing some new movements with him. Classes are $20 per class for drop-ins and $15 per class when you buy a pack of 4 or more. We’ll see y’all Saturday Morning!
How often do you exercise your mindset? We use our minds constantly everyday with all the tasks we have to do and things we CANNOT forget. But most of us never take the time to exercise our mindset, our perception, how we view the world.
It’s easy to have a negative outlook, there’s negativity around us constantly. But you can remain happy in the face of all of it, if you work on your mindset. I do this daily by listening to motivational speakers, talks on goal setting, or some other type of positive audio. One of my favorite people to listen to is Jim Rohn. He passed away a few years back but we can still take advantage of the knowledge he shared with us today. Click the video to listen to one of my favorite talks of his, try listening to it in the car on your way to work. Choose a happy mindset instead of letting your environment choose it for you.
Wrists are apart of the body that 99% of people never even think to stretch (other than rock climbers and gymnasts). But its EXTREMELY crucial to not only the health of your wrists, but also your elbows, shoulders, and scapula.
If you suffer from elbow tendinitis, wrist pain, loss of range of motion in your arms & shoulders; this will undoubtedly help. Make this apart of your morning daily routine or apart of your workout warmup. You can even do it in front of the TV! If you do this routine everyday (less than 7 minutes a day) for a couple weeks, you’ll be amazed at the difference!
What if I can? What if I can’t?……. What if I get hurt? What if something amazing happens? ….. What if she says no? What happens when they say yes?… Successful people tend to ask themselves the right questions. Questions that set themselves up for success, rather than failure. Tai Chi- Total Body MOVEMENT Routine
I start off every morning with a Total Body Movement Routine, very much like Tai Chi. Our current society doesn’t require us to use all of the movements we are capable of. Overtime the body learns that those movements must not be very important since you never move that way. So in an effort to conserve energy, the brain will shut off its communication to the muscle(s) involved in those unused movements. This is the main reason you have all those little aches and pains, knots, tightness, lack of range of motion, etc.
When you start off the day by doing simple movements in the biggest ranges of motion you are capable of, you are telling your brain that these movements and these muscles are important! You are telling your brain to maintain that communication and to strengthen it. My entire Total Body Movement Routine only takes about 15 minutes at the most. And I’ve never had somebody tell me they didn’t feel better after doing it. Start your day off with Movement! And after you Move… Meditate. You’re already more in tune with your mind and body after you Move. There is no better time to meditate than at the beginning of your day, before the day bombards you with everything you have to do.
Move, Meditate, Set Your INTENTIONS, then go out and conquer the day.
