Saturday Calisthenics Class is going down tomorrow from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with Alex! Classes are $20 each for drop-ins and $15 per class when you buy a pack 4 or more. Get your weekend started off right with some movement!
We have taken stabilization out of life as a society. Every thing we walk on is flat, the shoes we walk in are perfectly flat, our streets are paved flat, the floors in our homes and work places are flat, the floors at the gym are flat, literally everything we walk on is flat! The environment of our ancestors forced them to stabilize in every way, virtually every day.
Our modern environment has taken those opportunities away from us! Which is one of many reasons why you need to walk barefoot on a daily basis. Give your foundation (your feet) a chance to be used instead of confined in those foot-coffins *cough* I mean shoes. There is a reason why injuries of every kind are up hundreds of percents, why most people’s knees and back always hurt, why foot problems are more and more common….. we NEVER use our feet, we never have to stabilize and balance, so our foundation becomes weaker and weaker.
Yes, I realize there are freak injuries and then there’s the “well, I’m just getting old” reasoning, but in my view, neither of those can justify how much weaker and more injury prone humans have become. To me it’s simple, if you want to have a solid, healthy body; you cannot expect that to happen when you have a weak foundation. Would you buy a house or a building where you knew the foundation was weak? Would you invest or buy into anything that had a weak foundation? So why do we expect our bodies to remain healthy and injury-free while we neglect our feet and steadily weaken our foundation over time? You see, it’s not freak accidents or old-age, it’s a lack of use.
Calisthenics Class is going down tomorrow from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with Alex! The pictures above are from this past Saturdays class and Alex seriously did phenomenal job. I’ll be joining in the workout this time! Classes are $20 each for drop-ins and $15 per class when you buy a pack 4 or more. Hope to see y’all there in the morning!
Did you know that walking barefoot in the grass releases endorphins??? It’s interesting to think about how much the way we treat our feet has changed over the course of history; from barefoot ancestors for ten’s, if not, hundreds of thousands of years, to minimal sandals, to minimal shoes, to hard soled shoes with extra cushion and support. Yet with all this support, we don’t do something as simple as touch the Earth on a daily basis. It’s more likely to talk to find someone who has not touched the Earth in decades than it is to find someone who walks barefoot daily.
This has devastating effects on us both physically and mentally!!! By walking in these foot-coffins, *cough* I mean shoes, we are weakening the foundation we use to walk everyday (our feet), we are seperating ourselves from the Earth and our connection to it, and we are depriving ourselves of EASILY obtainable endorphins!!! Get outside, walk barefoot, and breathe deeply, I guarantee at minimum your mood will improve.

The Votes are in…. and WE WON!!!! Jonathan’s Private Training Studio has been voted The BEST Place to Workout in Oak Cliff!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you sooooooooo much to everybody who voted for us in this years Advocate Magazine’s Best of Oak Cliff Competition. We’ll be featured along with the other winners from their individual categories in the Advocate Magazine’s August edition!!!!! The fact that we are the only gym in this competition without a membership base and still won is amazing. Says a lot about what amazing people we have supporting us in the community.
I’ve heard a lot of definitions of mobility, usually its defined as a form of physical rehabilitation. But Mobility goes WAY beyond that. Mobility, simply put, is the combination of stretching and contracting within the same movement. This combination leads to greater range of motion, because you have not only stretched the body, you have also forced the muscles to contract within that stretch; meaning that you will now have more control and be able to perform that range of motion better, now that your muscles have been active in that range of motion.
See our ancestors never stretched. I can’t picture any of our ancestors ever saying, “oh my hamstrings are really tight today.” Then bending over to touch his/her toes. Our ancestors were incredible movers with far greater range of motion than most people today because of the way they moved and lived. It forced them to stretch and contract in their movements everyday.
